Beyond Web Detective and Data Hound is Net Detective which despite being comparably priced to the former is lacking many of the frills they offer. The information offered is pretty bare bones and serves as more of an expanded phone book than an actual research tool, though this isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
One very convenient feature of this particular site is the information it provides on specific enquires. For an individual person it provides not only the persons approximate age and date of birth but also their address and phone number {provided they are listed and/or public record}.
That is actually far more information for free than many of Net Detective’s competitors and can come in handy if you are simply trying to find contact information for an old acquaintance.
Net Detective also offers free information about companies in and around the user’s home city. Simply entering a companies name provides their address, telephone number, approximate number of employees and their range of revenue.
The drawback to this site however is its lack of options for customers, as the site tends to rely mainly on county, city and state records. Many of these agencies can be found using a simple web search by anyone who feels like putting a little effort into their investigations.
In the end, despite its free information, Net Detective just lacks the resources to piece together a thorough and competent search. While linking to pay sites has been reason for complaint on other sites, Net Detective doesn’t even offer the past options for that route of investigation.
Despite its lack of depth when compared to competitors, Net Detective still asks for $29.00 for access to its limited links to county records. Simply put, Net Detective is yet another service that serves merely as a middle man that offers customers information they could go almost surely get elsewhere if they wanted to spend more time on it.
